Building Trust in Business: How to Strengthen Your Success Muscle

Let's Talk About Self-Trust ;)

As we begin 2025, there’s one critical factor that can make all the difference in your business success this year: trust. No matter what your goals are for this year, building trust is essential. In this post, we’re talking about how strengthening your trust muscle—both as a belief and a skill—can help you build long-lasting success.

Trust is one of the most underrated (yet crazy-powerful!) factors in entrepreneurship. It’s not just about trusting others; it’s about creating and cultivating self-trust. When you trust yourself and your abilities, it becomes simpler and easier to navigate challenges, make confident decisions, and ultimately, grow your business in terms of both IMPACT and INCOME.

So why is self-trust is THE key to success in business? Let’s talk about it.

Why Trust is the Biggest Difference-Maker in Business Success

In business, it turns out that trust is the foundation of pretty much everything. It’s what enables you to move forward even when the path isn’t clear, when you’re uncertain, or you’re not sure how to do something. And most importantly, trust in yourself is the catalyst for all the other aspects of business growth: confidence, decision-making, and resilience.

Which is all great… but how do you *actually* strengthen this vital muscle?

The first step is understanding that self-trust is a skill you develop over time. Just like physical muscles, it requires consistent effort and practice. When you build trust in yourself, you spend less time doubting your abilities and start making decisions based on what you know to be true rather than on fear or uncertainty. Doing this leads to a less internal drama questioning, and an overall productive mindset, which in turn positively impacts your business.

Self-Trust: The Secret to Overcoming Self-Doubt

If you’re an entrepreneur, you’ve dealt with self-doubt. You’ve questioned your expertise, feared failure, or worried that you’re not doing enough – we all have, it’s totally normal. But if you want to spend less energy on doubt, this is where self-trust comes into play.

Self-trust helps you move forward even if you have these doubts. When we have trust, we remember that moving forward is not about having all the answers or knowing every step of the journey. It’s about believing in your ability to handle whatever comes your way and trusting that you’ll figure things out as you go.

Many of the mindset-based struggles that can plague entrepreneurs are related to trust. For example perfectionism,  and imposter syndrome are natural hurdles on the entrepreneurial path – everyone deals with them to a degree, and more self-trust helps us to deal with them more quickly and effectively. Part of strengthening your trust muscle involves building a relationship that works with imperfection and using every experience—success or failure—as an opportunity to build more trust in yourself.

Strategies to Strengthen Your Trust Muscle

So, how do you actually build trust in yourself and you business? Here are some questions that you can ask yourself right now.

  1. How do you feel about the unknown, right now? How do you feel about things that are uncertain or unclear in your business?
  2. What are your current thoughts about whether you trust yourself or not, and how much you trust yourself in any given situation?
  3. What are areas of your work that are difficult or that you struggle with and may be related to trust/lack of trust?

Answering these questions for yourself (maybe more than once) can help you to get a clear sense of where you are with trust, and your relationship with the unknown, right now. The more comfortable and confident you are able to be with the unknown, the greater level of trust you have.

Final Thoughts: Start Strengthening Your Trust Muscle Today

As we kick off 2025, there’s no better time to commit to strengthening your trust muscle. Trusting yourself is key to overcoming doubts, navigating uncertainty, and embracing the challenges that come with growing your business. When you invest in building self-trust, you'll see a lasting impact on your business, from decision-making to productivity and beyond.

Remember, trust is not a one-time choice. It’s a practice – trusting ourselves is both a belief and a skill, and we strengthen both by practicing. And as you practice, you’ll find that you can more easily handle whatever comes your way and build a thriving business that you love, and helps your people!

I'm a business weirdo. I want to do things 'right' and also I'm completely unwilling to do things that don't feel like me... which means a lot of the 'rigth' ways of the traditional business world don't match up. Maybe you can relate to this feeling :) On this episode, I'm going to share what being a business weirdo has meant for me, the lows and the highs that come with it, and how I've (mostly) worked to come to a place where I embrace the weird and let it HELP me, rather than hold me back. Come for the story but also for the practical ideas on succeeding as a weirdo :)
